Getting ready to go!

We are two days and counting away from joining the Great Shapes, 1000 smiles team in Negril, Jamaica. Brett, Shannon and I are anxiously preparing ourselves and our families for the week away. It's very bittersweet, we are so excited embarking on what will be a life changing trip, but it is so hard to leave our children behind! We just pray that they are taken care of and well protected in our absence.

Great Shape! Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides dental care, eye care, and education to the many people of Jamaica. GS tries to set their clinics near schools so they may educate all of the children on proper dental hygiene. Brett was fortunate enough to go last year and work with the great team at Cave Valley, where he met some fascinating people. I have been following the blogs, tweets, and facebook status' of all of the GS volunteers that have already been to Jamaica this year. They have been successful in treating hundreds of people in Montego Bay as well as Ocho Rios.

We can't wait to meet the GS team and the people of Jamaica! Of course, we are most excited to see the children! Last year, Brett noticed that the entire school was playing with a grungy tennis ball, so this year we are bringing along some soccer balls and other toys that we hope the kids will enjoy! GS has also asked us to bring gently used children's books as well as new toys for a toy drive that is sponsored by Sandals resorts. Sandals partners with GS in housing, and feeding all of the volunteers for the week we are in Jamaica!!

We will be embarking on this trip in the wee hours of Friday, November 6. It is with great anticipation that we gear up for the upcoming week! We ask that you say a prayer for our families in our absence, and safe travels for us!

More to come.....
Susan :)
